    Chassis Cracks

    These are some pics of a cracked V8 HZ ute chassis. It was replaced because it was past repairing again. It had been welded and then plated and welded and was cracked again. Chassis on country utes wore out just like an engine does. The rest of the ute was in good order with no rust. I did not do that welding either by the way.



    This is a photo of the WB country pack bars. They dont stop cracking either.



    This one is cracked at the bottom.

    HZ/WB bars may not stop all cracking, but they certainly help prevent it. That is why you can still find good, uncracked HZ and WB chassis with the bars not cracked, but plenty without them and with cracks. I'm not sure when the bars became optional, possibly with RTS geometry. I used to have a HX tonner chassis with RTS geometry (chassis is still out at Greg's) and from memory it had the holes for them.

    Yeah they may help. My theory is that when you hit a sharp edges bump like a pothole the control arm flexes as far as the bushes allow and then the chassis has to flex. Flex eventually weakens the chassis and hello cracks.

    alot of country utes had big bull bars which bend the chassis on impact with roo etc...

    i hit one with a 5 poster in a WB at about 40 kmh, it was enough to bend chassis..
