HZ Sandman ... to be or not to be???

G'day all, Just found your site by seeing a "My Sandman.com.au" decal for sale on evilBay. Have spent the last 24hrs reading blogs, forums, tech stuff etc etc trying to catch up ... you guys rock, the amount of knowledge you guys know/share is unbeleivable. I've learnt so much about Sandmans in the past 24hrs that now my head hurts.

I've been thru all your ID info and from what I've read everything points to this being the real deal, would appreciate if you guys can confirm.

    Passenger side tag ...

    Model: HZ8WM70
    Body: 443639-A
    Trim: 1926-63C
    Paint: 568-30517
    L32 M20 GV4

    Long skinny tag (VIN?)... 8M70RJL4436392Z

    Drivers side tag ...

    03-79 CHZ49912A

    GVW 2000 SEATING CAP 2

The number stamped on the chassis rail near steering box is CHZ49912A
    Engine number is ZR23931
Tyre placard has ZG 9946866 on it.
Has full head lining with the metal strip above rear door.

Is there anything else I need to look at?

Where do I find the date code on the engine, I was told ZR is a late HZ 4.2 ltr, when did they change from QR?

thanks heaps for a great forum, top stuff!

    Tony

    Welcome to the forums!

I think from the placard number and the rest of the numbers it is a Sandman, matching chassis as well.

I am sure someone else will confirm it or not on here.

Hello and welcome to the site, you will find pretty much everything you need to know about your van here. What the people don't know on here, is probably not worth knowing. I myself am not a guru, I am in the process of learning. I can though agree with the engine prefix, I owned a 12/78 4.2 litre ute,and it's no was...ZR3911.

    Cheer's.

Nice Sandman you've got there, when you get around to it can you share some photos?

There sure is a lot to read and digest here but if you ever get lost just use the 'search' box and you should find whatever you are looking for. Great bunch of guys and girls here, so make yourself known in the chat box.

i have 2/1979 253 recorded from a totally stock HZ wagon adel build as engine number ZR 10xxx
so yours is a month later and another 13000 more.
my guess is thats its original motor for 3/79

yours is an ADELAIDE XX7 for when your power talking to others!

Late 1978 was when the HQ engine numbers ran out and the HZ sequence started.

Your PSN has 1 x too many digits too. The 2 on the end of the VIN just before the Z shouldn't be there. Probably just a typo.

Thanks again for the info Byron, it really helps me to learn and want to know more. And yes the extra 2 was a typo. cheers
