    Ampol trial panelvan for sale

Found this on Lloyds, 308 auto HZ panelvan (not sandman) used as support vehicle in around Australia Trial in 1979, according to the ad one of the actual vans.

There is a member on here with a similar vehicle. Nice piece of history.

Wasn't the 1979 Round Australia Trial sponsored by Repco, not Ampol.

AFAIK the last Ampol trial was in the 60s.

I remember the old Ampol trials very well. My grandmother took first in class and fifth outright in the fifties in a 1927 Rolls Royce of all things. Stayed in the family for forty years. We used to take it on holidays on the odd occasion. Still has its racing livery. Rolls tried to sue my grandmother because you are not allowed to use them in racing events, but that was a whole other story.

I would guess the current owner is in VIC and has ordered custom colour plates to resemble the original NSW plates from the 70s

Axistr, your grandmother was a pioneer, woman would have had a hard time getting to participate in those days let alone get in the results!!

What’s the go with the speedo? White needle with a trip meter? Is it a police spec one? I know they list them for WB as a Victorian Police high accuracy instrument, but why would it have a white needle?
