    HJ Ute ID

    Hi guys, new to the forum and if a purchase comes off shortly, I will hopefully be a regular here. looking to buy a ute, struggling with a few items on the ID tags, but it may be a Sandman Ute. I don't know much about cars but i like the older ones. I think it is Casino Blue, but there are other numbers before the paint code, so I can't be positive. I know the tags are 308 eng, manual etc.
    I just wanted to get a list of items clarified via the numbers. I will put up the tags and any help would be appreciated. I had a read through a lot of the previous posts but still not 100% sure what I am looking at here.

    I only have some pics of the car, it is in with several other cars and I have set a time to go and see them soon in person. I would really like to be prepared when I have it in front of me. I am not used to forums so hopefully the photos attach ok. Thanks for any assistance.

    HJ is very hard to identify. Nice options though. The only way to know is to contact HHS.

    N = Kingswood 80 = Ute
    1860kg GVW = XX7 V8 Sandman Ute (with A/C?) never can remember the 1860kg is plain XX7 in a Ute or XX7 Ute with A/C. Either way the 1860kg GMW points to Sandman.
    568 = Paint type Non Metallic 17297 = Casino Blue (Metallic paint would have been a better indication of Sandman but it was up to the customer).
    1904 = Casino Blue 60V = Beige Chamois
    Inside Tray should be body colour I.E: Casino Blue (but would be true of any HJ Kingswood Ute)
    L31 = 308 V8 M21= 4 Speed Manual GV4 = Salisbury 3.36:1 Diff Ratio

    Look for the Sandman options. Blackouts, Black door handles, Spare wheel winch cup, All the GTS gear etc.

    Not black handles on hj. Casino blue available across the Holden range (I believe never as a metallic). You don't see it often. Sandman or not a very desirable ute. There is a thread in the HJ Sandman showroom section by a member Cafiem who did up a casino blue ute, looks tops

    Being a Kingswood Ute check if there are holes in the B pillar or at the rear near the tail light for the Kingswood bump strips. Fairly sure this was a delete for HJ Kingswood Sandman Ute(meaning they are a Kingswood without the holes so different to normal Kingswood).
    This is why the Kingswood Sandman was dropped in HX/Z as they went to the fused pins down the quarter,doors and front guard and you couldn’t put the stickers on, but HJ only had the two screw holes.
    I stand to be corrected on this in HJ but I am sure I remember Byron mentioned this years ago.
    Sandaro your dad’s has the strips but are they stick on?

    Yes, my mistake on the black door handles (brain slip into neutral). As for the metallic I was pointing out that the 568 = Paint type Non Metallic. (though metallic paint would have been a pointer to being a Sandman in any colour) was never saying Casino blue was offered in metallic.
