Scomo should fund and restart Holden! #holden2.0

Imagine a local built, electric, Holden 2.0 - this is how you win elections Scotty.

Nation wide, government owned electric servos, rebuild the grid and the NBN at the same time! Heady thoughts my fellow Lion lovers.

Hell, have GM contribute as good faith on leaving the market and save the dealerships.

There is still a lot of brand awareness, many Aussies were sad to see the end of the Iron Lion and there is definitely anger over GM leaving the way they have.

You package that with a nation building project on a scale to create a hundred thousand new jobs, retrain workers from dying industries and see Australia become the clean/green energy world leader. In 5 years we start exporting that knowledge and product to recoup the investment.

Plus the pandemic has brought attention to the need to de-globalise and support local manufacturing.

Scotty has said he wants big ideas, a national energy grid powered mostly by the sun and wind, including Fibre NBN and supporting nation wide electric servos is a big idea.

Imagine the revolution in the transport industry if we could reduce fueling costs to nearly zero, now they have the motivation to switch to electric vehicles, every industry would benefit - except fossil fuels, and their staff could be retrained and have jobs for life.

Holden could produce electric semi's and trains as well as passenger cars.

Already I can travel the length of Queensland along the Bruce highway for free (fuel/energy) if I an use electric vehicle, for an introductory period.

I might be ranting now but, at least I could still do skids in an Aussie made Ute, even if its electric, I'll just blast the Js all the louder.

    Amen to these ideas

And then we can drive our real cars on weekends as there would still be some fuel around

Can you imagine the head turns as you roar by in a V8! The classics would stand out even more, go up in value and identify you as a real one

Burning electronic smell / hotwire plastic smell / "skids"..... really is this what life has become...love the smell of burning diesel farm machinery putting in this year's crop turning over the damp soil smell everything associated with it ... all the good old car's ... it takes a bit of swallowing but Holden "RIP"
Making them stand out / appreciated.

Just gotta convince him his rich mates will do well out of it too.

Serioulsy though, I would like to see a return to heavy manufacturing in Australia, this would really help.

    Fair points all.

Perhaps we could rename it, just don't let us lose all the skills and passion Holden had.

Definitely will mourn the loss of the internal combustion engine, but, we must change.

I recall seeing this story a couple of years back. It would be great to see super cool Australian made EV's competing across wider markets...and still have a cheeky weekend drive in the old V8 classics...

Trouble is, electric cars are not environmentally friendly are they. We need coal to generate enough power just to live day to day as it is. To charge millions of electric cars we will need more coal fired power stations. Solar can’t cut it, it only produces full power for about two hours a day and wind is no better.

It kind of depends if you've got access to solar... We have a 6kW solar system at home and for the most part we try and make it the only energy source charging our EV, mostly because i hate importing grid power when the EV is on charge. We usually look at the weather forecast each weekend and plug in when the sun is shining the most...and if we aren't bashing the solar on a washing day wih the dryer going

That worked well through Summer and into Autumn, but i do agree that in the last month, i've definitely done refills from grid as the sun is not out as much during winter. It will be interesting to review a years worth of charging and see how much grid we use, as we've only had the EV for about 6 months now.
