I don't have an exact answer, but it is definitely not on the front apron (nose cone). It does not go across the 'gap'

You will see them fitted both ways either from the nose cone or from the edge of the guard.
They were "dealer" fitted. Holden never fitted them. They were supplied to the dealer within the car to be fitted (or not).

Reading the original fitting instruction sheet might give a definitive answer or it may not.
There are plenty around with either fitment, probably close to a 50/50 split from my library of original HQ Sandman's.

To apply the guard section wouldn't you start at the rear of the guard (door gap) to match door, a small amount tucks into gap, then how far forward would be determined by the length of the sticker?

More or less yes. The length of the sticker will dictate how far forward it finishes, though from what I’ve seen they do finish somewhere between 10mm to an inch or so behind the front edge of the guard.

Does the sticker actually come in 3 sections ?

I seem to remember a guy applying one years ago & the whole side was in just 2 pieces & the door gap was cut after the sticker was applied.

I've never applied them, but (I'm going by pure memory here) but on my HJ I seem to recall that the edge that was tucked into the door gap (hidden from view) has some distinct end to it, from both the guards side and door side. So I'm guessing they came in 3 pieces per side.

Any one still have an original boxed set?
