    I'm not saying that drums are as good as discs...
    It sounds like it would be a lot of work for not a lot to gain..
    If was me I'd be Messing around with your front discs ...
    Didn't the American early muscle car's have 4 wheel drums..

    Drums run into trouble on repeated hard stops, that's where discs are better. My opinion if you are rebuilding a sandman for irregular street use, no need to update to discs.

    But if upgrading engine to 350 engineers may want better brakes as part of the overall package.

    Drums are not outdated yet, still plenty of cars (Hilux for example) that use rear drums.
    As Sandaro said, unless you are after performance needed racing, you don’t need them on a HQ-WB.
    As Terry said, you will run into handbrake issues.
    You need to change the master cylinder also to suit rear discs.
    Remember they raced plenty of cars at Bathurst successfully with rear drums.

    These commercial vehicles have to be able to stop multiple times on an emergency brake only.
    That's not to say you should stay with drums or switch to discs if you wish. But keep that in mind for registration.

    Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm thinking the biggest braking advantages could be had by upgrading the front discs and master cylinder? Bigger rotors, calipers, venting, etc etc? Having said that, i've got 4 wheel discs on my tonner and its nice to say 'its got disc brakes all round'...
