To Stripe or Not to Stripe?

A lifetime ago when I bought my HZ Ute, being white, it came with Dy2 stripes. Being a 22 yr old at the time,I didn't want to order another one without the stripes, and have to wait for it to come in. I thought the stripes were very "over the top", and would attract unwanted attention from the police, as it did 3 week's later.

I asked the salesman about removing them, and he said you have already paid for them.So I thought bugger it I'll leave them alone, and during the almost 3 yrs I had it I came to like them. Even now that I am an "Old Fart,"...I'm 54...I couldn't imagine them without the stripes. To me the stripes are part of what give's a Sandman it's identity.

    Cheer's.

Personally I don't like stripes on HX and HZ. If I ordered one new it would have been DL7 (delete stripes). I'd have HQ and HJ stripes but still would rather not have them. It's not a stripe or paint thing - I really like HQ SS and GTS blackouts and HK blackouts.
I remember when the friend of mine that has the Windsor blue HZ XX7 van (that he stilll has) his brother had a white HX XX7 van. I like both of these models better in white, but side by side the DL7 HZ looked miles better. The striped car always looked like a wankers car even in the 80's, and the DL7 just looked cooler. But again, just me. I know some of the guys here love the stripes. If I ever end up buying the Windsor blue car it'll stay DL7 but i'd probably put one of Jason's Sandman scrolls on the tail-gate as it needs repainting to get rid of the mural on it.

Stripes all the way! haha. But aye I would say that wouldn't I as I sell them.

My custom HZ Sandman ute I plan to make some custom coloured stripes. So proves to show I like the stripes.

As Byron said its a personal thing. I think they look neat without stripes. But I also think they look great without. Depends on the colour too I think. A dark metallic colour I think stripes can look out of place. On a white sandman (like the one I just brought) I think they need the stripes and look perfect with them.

One thing I do not like. Again this is a personal opinion, I don't like the HQ/HJ Sandman's with a custom larger "sandman" like the one on the pillars larger and on the tailgate. I have sold a few of these to people wanting them. But for me they just look wrong.

Its again making your car your own

You guys dont know how good you have it with the availablity of quality sandman stipes. In the 90's when I had to resparay my Contessa Gold HX Sandman, you could not get them anywhere, just signwriters who would use pin stiping etc and they looked crap. Go the stripes.

I was always of the opinion that if your quarters were a bit ordinary, then the stripes would also hide a few sins, but if you have great lines, then they do look good with out them.

All I need is a Sandamn again.

Took me a while to decide whether or not to put the stripes on. Byron pretty sure mine was a DL7 also originally.

Looks great either way I think. But I wanted the "sandman" I remembered as a kid, and that meant the stripes were required.

That's the same as the blue van I was talking about. Looks so much better without stripes! I'd rather it be a HJ with the single nose and no spoiler, but still a great looking van. Well done.
