What conditon is your Sandman in?

I thought I'd start a thread just to get an idea of what proportion of members Sandmans are on the road or complete but stored or under restoration.


If I could ask just to respond with brief details of model (HQ/J/X/Z) and body type van/ute and whether its on the road or running but unreg or under restoration.



I'll start, my avatar is actually my Dad's Mandarin van HJ 308 4 speed, running and now on historic rego.

For myself I have a HJ Mandarin van under restoration (chassis engine bay and underside done) originally 253 4 speed, but I will power with 308 4 speed. Probably 2 years off completion, plans to get back into it shortly (house deck comes first!)


Also have HJ Jade green van originally 308 4 speed that is just a shell, not sure whether this will be done but needs everything done.

Unrestored, needs it badly. Not running.
Collecting parts. Need good panels if anybody knows of some.
Completion date? Who knows, but years away! Still building house...

HJ Sandman Panel van, plated XX7,308, 4 speed, factory colour Persian Sand with antelope trim, current colour Deville blue chamois interior with 308 and 4 speed.

Very good condition, registered, have to snig me out of it with a D9, love driving it. Gave the engine a freshen up and put it back in a couple of days ago.

Hz panelvan, Persian sand mk2, xu3, Melbourne build, 253, 4 speed, buckskin interior. Matching numbers everything, all docs etc. Chassis, drive line done, in primer want it finished in 12 months
Hz panelvan, deville blue, xx7, Sydney build, 308, 4 speed, black interior. No motor or box, lots of rust but never been painted so great guide for black outs etc, long way from starting let alone finishing.

HX van 308 4sp Persian Sand, (again!) chamois/black interior. Been sitting 15-20 years, country rust (sills & behind rear wheels) Drove it about 5ks few years ago when I bought it. Paint average faded & crazed on roof. Interior not bad seats usable but would need trimming. Typical 80s van, statesman front & grille, cammy engine, Hurst shifter, electric windows. Confirmed original engine from H.H.S., Basically complete, missing console & tailgate handle.

When I bought it was planning on painting Mint Juliep, now not sure. Pretty sure I don't want to paint it brown. Probably sit on it til I find a green or orange HZ. (one from Perth would do) If I don't find a better example, I will consider doing it rat style, leave body, just fix what it needs & airbrush faded stripes.

Have a hq sandman kingswood ute in burgundy 253 4 speed, all complete but needs full resto,have a hq sandman belmont ute in Barbados green 253 4 sepeed have all the bits for it but pulled apart needs full resto,have a hq sandman ute Belmont aquamarine metallic 308 m21 about to start full resto ,seats ,motor done nos parts mainly going back on ,original matching numbers car getting excited about starting, last but not least a hj sandman kingswood ute nutria brown 253 4 speed in a thousand pieces but all there, i think.
