    HJ Sandman ute, Belmont/Kingswood base.

    Hi All my first post,

We have a HJ Sandman ute jamaica lime 3/76 was the last of the Belmont based built in Dandenong from Ben HHS.
We are second owner and had it since 78 and are currently restoring was very original including paint and interior.
Interested in the diffrence from belmont to kingswood in HJ ute only apparently,
From what I can see, chrome around rear tail lights and main doors including scuff plate, and the door trim lines run vertical on ours kingwood run horizontal and ours had no decals on it just the standard black outs including the fluted guards and a Holden badge in the middle of tail gate.
We have restored the interior back to 100% as was, slate black with grey roof liner vertical lines door trim.
Even though it never had the decals, intend putting them on. The tail gate is a problem, ours only had the Holden badge with no 4.2 LTR badge with the decal on the tailgate the badge may look odd and some utes also have a sandman decal on the top right and some have the 4.2/5.0 ltr badge on the left.
Was the holden badge only on the belmont based sandmans.
Working on the tail gate at the moment prepping for paint was considering not putting the holden badge back with the decal on the tail gate, interested in your thoughts.

    Green ute.

The tailgate has a fold about 5 inches from the bottom. The HJ sandman tailgate sticker (black panel with black outline) goes below the fold. The Holden badge goes above the fold central on the tailgate, so they do not conflict in position.

Are you referring to the Sandman logo sticker (like the one on the B pillar)? I don't believe these went on the tailgate (despite trax models popularising this belief in many)

    Thanks Sandaro,
I was referring to the sandman logo sticker being used on the tailgate and the Holden badge, i didnt think the logo was used on the tailgate standard either but did all HJ sandmans have the holden badge in the middle like ours. Not many seen on utes vans today most seem to leave off.

I believe they did. You're right though, a lot don't seem to have it anymore, maybe when reskinning/replacing tailgate decided to leave off

Only the base model HJ commercial had the centre Holden badge. No Belmont in HJ commercials. Just called a Holden, even though "some" Holden literature still names them as Belmont.
No Sandman worded decal on a HJ Sandman tailgate only the boxed stripe under the lower fold. HX-HZ obviously had the large Sandman word.

Vertical stainless strips on B pillars on Kingswood utes. I think they had the chrome millar strip around the rear window instead of black too. I don’t think Standard Holden has the arm rests either but someone else could confirm.
Your Ute would have 100% had the stickers in the glovebox when new, they just didn’t get fitted by the sound of it.

Thanks Innuendo and wbute, dont see to many original unrestored vehicles around, so best to leave mine as is and put the holden badge in tailgate as it was. Back in the day the HJ decal wasn't popular maybe because was the same as HQ. Want it to be restored to original, lucky still got the original HC 253 engine and heads. will load some photos from late 70s and prior to resto. (when i work out how)
    thanks again.

Welcome to the forums Green ute. Great info gents. No ‘Sandman’ on the tailgate and the 4.2 Litre badge (if fitted to ‘Holden’ spec HJ utes - don’t know the answer to that one!) would be on the left side of the tailgate. Mine is a Kingswood spec ute so has the badge there from factory.
