    Panama Green HZ Sandman?

    Hi Guys,

    New to this forum,

I have potentially found a sandman. I have some numbers not all of them yet. Would be great if someone could shed some light.

    Model HZ8WM70
    Body 463511-A
    Trim 1931-67C
    Paint 568-30522 (Panama Green)
    Engine L32 (253)
    Trans M20 (4speed)
    Rear axle GU4 (3:08)

Has Yellow needle GTS dash, Full headlining, console mounts, bucket seats, Twin headlights, GTS guards. It also has side windows in the back not sure if Sandmans came out with this option?

Any help would be great. will be investigating more.

    Cheers

Gvm is a bit higher than what i’d Like to see , but I think there were other versions with the commercial tyres.

If the door handles are actual black rather than black painted chrome then I reckon you’d be onto a winner (it’s an often overlooked feature with clones).
Other than that, a HHS report will be the best way to verify.

Side windows were an option for this modal Holden Van regardless of Sandman.
The door handles look like they are from a WB (so not original).
Appears to be missing sill blackouts (check the paint for signs).
Roof rack is not original and no blackouts on the windscreen mould.

If you really want to be sure www.holdenhistoricalservices.com.au and order a certificate.

According to the parts books for the tyre placard. 9946868 is for 6 cyl Sandman. 9946866 is for 10 cwt and 92001123 is for 14.5. Your number is cut off in the photo so it is difficult to confirm.

I can't comment on whether it's a Sandman or not but later HZs (possibly after 11/78?) had those 'ribbed' outer door handles.

The later HZs also had "C" code trim, "sandpaper"-grained dash pad, black ignition and glovebox lock, Z-prefix engine number amongst other things...

    Nice find either way!

Cool original colour, I would own it Sandman or not. Chrome windscreen strips & handles may have been changed, a bit unlikely maybe.
