Years ago , when Rare Spares was in Brunswick, we had a large bath of Molasses to clean rust off panels. It worked very well, except for the smell on hot summer days. It was very mild on the panel but took all the rust off.

You could try ringing Vintage Wiring Harness in Ringwood Victoria. They might be able to help. They supply changeover harness and parts, but you must have all the parts usually. They clean up the hard parts and reassemble with new wire and loom tape to original looks.

I rang Vintage Wiring last week, he said there was a 3 month wait.

I've done mine with a Dremel type rotary tool and small wire brush on the end. Just be very careful not to catch the edges, particularly against the spin so to speak. Probably find the rust back there in another 20 years but I'll do it again then
