Thread: Water pump?

  1. #1

    Water pump?

Have been told that they wear, and can course over heating?
My ine has now done 220,000 kays
    Time for a change?
If so is it time for the oil pump as well?
It is not running hot and has good oil pressure, but is it a good idea to replace?

    Cheers Kiwivan

Mate my water pump just dropped it’s gits on my WB. It was new when I rebuilt the engine less than 100000km ago. The fan hit the radiator and I nearly cooked it. There was no bearing noise that I noticed. I assume you have run coolant/inhibitor.
As for oil pumps, it’s common for cam lobes to wear off due to low oil pressure at low revs. Usually cars that do lots of slow, short running around town. I reckon that’s what most restored cars do. As far as I know though, gear pumps either work or they don’t. If you change your oil regularly and use quality filters they should be good for a long time.
