Apprentice motor mechanic 1978, $35.00 per week Mum took $15 per week for board. And I smoked back then. couldn't do that now. Had to work 15 hours overtime per week for car payments and fuel couldn't afford to go to the pub.

1986, Mount Isa Mines Information Systems (Computer) Department, Trainee Computer Operator on the Sperry/Univac 1172/1182 Mainframe computer systems. Computers filled a couple of large rooms, had manually loaded tape drives and massive printers. Was very up to date at the time. I remember my Mother being disgusted that I earned $250 a week in the hand as a boy that had just turned 17 with only a high school education. That's mining companies for you though. Paid off the $2700 loan on the 1978 Holden Sunbird in 6 months, wasn't a bad start.
