Confused. Help please on possible Sandman ID

    Hi guys,
New to the forum, and have very confusing Tags that lead me to believe the vehicle I have is possible a genuine Sandman.

Any help to clarify would be greatly appreciated.

The vehicle is a HJ utility

    Tag says:
    HJ Coupe Utility
    4-75 BHJ 04937 M
    CVW 2155kg Seating Cap 3

    Model: HJ8WM80
    LD1 M15 CV7

Originally I was told the ute had column shift, and a 6 cyl as the tag probably states. But it says seating Capacity 3 even though it looks like it came from the factory with bucket seats?? I inherited it with bucket seats and the middle console metal plate looks to be welded in from the factory, but I'm not 100%.

Thanks if anyone can correctly ID this as an original Sandman ute or not.

    Cheers,
    Adam

Don't thing it's a Sandman. 3 speed and 3 seater can't be. As for the console mounts, they can be added or the tags don't match the body.

    Thanks guys,
    Nevermind... With the
    BHJ 04937 M
    and the
    HJ8WM80 model
    I thought it could be.

It even has absynth yellow as the original factory color!

The numbers give it up as a "Holden" Ute made at the "Melbourne" plant.
Yes, Absynth is a HJ colour. Nothing Sandman from the tags about it though!

    It's a 6cyl with the 3 on the tree running a GV7 = 3.55:1 diff ratio.

HJUTE1975, I would add, even if you are a bit disappointed on the assessment that its probably not Sandman, you still have an HJ ute!

Clean it, shine it, use it, etc. I reckon theres a good chance it's value could surprise you in years to come. It's worth considering that a Sandman costs money to get it right and keep it up to premium. A standard ute requires heaps less money, and its useful. Cheap parts, and potentially, it can go on forever. There are few comparable vehicles. Sandman or not, I don't think there are many in Australia theres days who would say an HJ ute is not a classic car.
