After rubbing my hands over the body for over an hour I found a couple of ripples that I wasn't happy about, blocked them and recoated and re blocked till I was happy. I still have a few sections to do than attack the roof (back to bare metal). I also decided to fit a few things like mirrors to check all the bracket holes were in the correct spots. The chrome on the mirror brackets have corrosion and need re chroming and painting. I either get new Rare Spares or paint these ones but I would need to be able to get them apart first. Has anyone striped any of these GTS mirrors without damaging them ? Are the metal swivel plates glued to the housing.
Hopefully soon I can get the whole body in hi-fill and shouldn't look like a patch work quilt.

If the pitting is pretty bad just get a set of Rare Spare Mirrors its not cheap restoring them ive got a few sets same thing all pitted.
Many chromers will not do the stems because they are cast so im told, there is a business in S.A. that removes the pitting and rechromes the stems like brand new a mate of mine had some done there.
About the swivel plates id like to know that to.?
I was half expecting that I might have to buy new. At some stage I will have to drop off a few things at the chromers so thought it might have been a good opportunity to get them freshened up.
Fixing pitted die cast is a losing battle. You can repair it but it always comes back to haunt you.
To repair it you (or they, the platers) have to die grind out every pit (and get them spotless) then plate with copper, sand/linish and plate repetitively until filled and then nickel and chrome.
All extremely time consuming and costly and in the end the pits will reappear down the track.

Thanks for the tips, I solved the problem and purchased new mirrors from Rare Spares. The pivots hex bolts were seized and when I eventually got them to move the threads come with it, so no more stuffing around with them.
I drilled and slotted two new holes in the front bumper bar brackets to suit the HZ brackets/WB chassis and fitted up the bar. The alignment of the bar is great. Thank Christ every thing is lining up ok, its always an unknown when you buy a car disassembled in hundreds of parts and some of those parts have been sourced from different cars.
Cut out the lower apron holes and fitted the font spoiler. Also fitted better than expected. Cleaned up and painted the grill. I think I will need to repaint the front badge, Rory's background looks a bit to bright, I think the original colour is a much darker red. Yes Gene, I went to Rare Spares to pick up new mirrors and they had front spoilers sitting on the shelf. I had a good look at them and quizzed the manager. He told me that they had to many problems with the plastic ones they were selling, and decided to go back to there original fiberglass spoiler supplier. When I asked him was Wilson\Ernicks the manufactures he said yes.

As someone that's built quite a few cars, what rust proofing do you use?
I'm guessing its a home brew concoction
