Hey Camper. Been meaning to drop a comment on your thread for a while. Your travels and pics are awesome and inspiring for what we can comfortably do with the Sandman van. When i'm bogged down on building my van, its good to remind myself of the fun at the end by having a look at your latest posts.

Here's a quick look at where I've been this last week off

The laughingly named highway, down to 1 lane in places and mostly used by tractors, The Argoon - Kilburnie Highway. Saves me 80 odd Ks on a usual trip









The Boynedale Bushcamp again, just dropped in to see this view










I may have spoke about the loo with a view here before, looks out over the Lake to the mountains and might be the best a long drop can get (lots of fresh air too)











The top/South end of the Boyne Valley, the road turns to gravel/dirt in places once you get past the pub, but is quite good. I really encourage people to check this place out, I don't know why it isn't better known.

Near the top of the range, gorgeous in the late afternoon sun. Surrounded by National parks and State Forests.
Just north of here is the last of the Bulburin Nut trees, something like 40 left, and the biggest patch of sub-tropical rainforest left in central Queensland, its almost like the Daintree deep in there.

At the very top of the Valley, the road really drops away here. For nearly 4 years after a flood/landslip the road was only 1 lane with the other lane having slipped away down the mountain, made for a nervous drive the first time I came that way, never did get a photo of it.

Sunset in the hills means a new sunset at the top of each hill











This log along the top of the cutting was amazing, it must have grown for 100+ years, fallen, kept growing (you can see a new root ball going down from the base), died, laid there for who knows how long only to have a cutting laid right alongside.

The next few hours were a night run down the Bruce Highway to home - 319 kms without a turn off

Just read through your trips. Loved all the pics. We did Gib River road, lake Ayer, Ayers Rock, and Kakadu. So much to see and do on our door step. Not in a sandman though. Thanks for sharing.

That sounds like it would have been a great trip,

I'm lucky enough to have grown up in the Northern Territory with a step Dad who also loved road trips so I have been through those areas (All in old Toyota 4wds, dual cab Hilux FTW) but would love to revisit. Did you have a favourite?
I really like the Olgas and Kings Canyon more than Ayers Rock and dream of flying over and sailing in Lake Eyre when in flood. Jabiru/Kakadu will always have a special place in my heart, when in primary school my Step Dad would sometimes let me skip school and hide in the truck while he dropped bread and milk to all the little townships on the way out to Jabiru.

So I got home, couch lock for a couple days then took Mum up to Noosa to watch the Sunset;

Next day was up in the hills to see a mate at his hobby farm






Lucky boy is surrounded by trees, on the eastern slope facing the sea with some volcanic rock and plenty of rain

Soon enough we had to take a walk to the bottlo, old mate locked himself out and to break in to his own place, classic shot

Next it was a quick 500km night drive back up north, TBC....

I love roadworks



Slept at Toldrodden Park on the Burnett river and kept going towards Mt Perry and the BoolBoonda Tunnel

Entry to the Boolboonda Tunnel. At 192m it is the longest, hand cut, unsupported tunnel in the southern hemisphere, constructed in 1883 to get the gold from the Mt. Perry mine and timber to the coast















Really cool that this is still a legal road




Next it was back to the highway and heading north again. I had not planned to stop off anywhere else but I had time and decided to drop into the other side of Lake Awoonga from where I normally go.
