Great butcher in town and I bought some salami, kabana and cheese, cold camped and was off before dawn again.












The Mighty Maranoa river, the 2012 floods were over the bridge I'm standing on here.







Major Mitchell, the guy the town and the Galah's are named after, not sure the Galah bit was a compliment.

Nearly home now,

did some real farmers lane type driving from Chinchilla to Jandowae, Kumbia (my new top vote for prettiest country town, will have to get back to this area), around the Bunya mountains to Nanango.

Old Man Lagoon, not far from Chinchilla (where I am this week), another top spot for a camp in the future, the dirt roads here were a lot of fun.









From here it was the D'Aguilar Highway, boring rush hour driving with some impatient risk taking punks, I will never understand why people overtake multiple cars around blind corners going up and down mountains. Death awaits.

So, does anyone have any special spots around the Atherton tablelands I should check out?

I haven't been up there in about 25 years but still love the place. Absolutely awsome scenery and water falls. I here Parks and wildlife have restricted a lot of access these days like everywhere else.

I was last there about 25 yrs ago myself, we did the Bloomfield track, I have fond memories of Bouncing Stones beach which is apparently blocked off now.

I also fell in love with Kuranda and the surrounding countryside, very different to what i was used to as a boy from Alice Springs, always promised myself I'd get back that way.
This trip has been a long time coming and I cannot wait to get gone, I've been up since 3:30 am this morning, didn't start work til 7 am, wont finish til 7 pm. I head off Wednesday morning, first night outside Charters Towers somewhere, next night I'll be in the Table Lands, wake up Friday morning in the Jungle.
