    *PLEASE NOTE*
I am NOT having a go at you YELLOW, just using this line as an example.

I hear a lot of people not liking auto's as they'd rather manuals, but i have a question.
Why not put a stage 3 shift kit in an auto (fully manualised)???
They use them for drag racing, there is no clutch slippage, no delay in changing gear, and you still have to change from 1st to 2nd then to top, and back down again.
    I had a stage 2 in my turbo 700 behind a worked 308 with a 6cyl banjo diff & axle's.
I was able to change as i pleased with very little delay between gears and still had the option of just leaving in it drive if i felt like it.

This is something that i've always wondered about.
I'll be curious to see the replies.

Modern autos are so good I doubt i'll ever buy another manual. The Hilux I just bought is a V6 5spd auto. The damn box even downshifts for you when you are going down hills or slowing up to lights. It is that good compared to the manual Toyota even quote better fuel economy than with the manual plus more power and torque. I think the box is an A750F. If I was ever to build another 4x4 with V8 this is the box i'd choose. Same box is in next door neighbours 100 series 6cyl turbo diesel 'cruiser. He is the same, would never buy another manual 4x4 after owning it. Shame the turbo diesel version of the 2010 Hilux only gets a 4spd auto as this 5spd would transform it. I haven't tried the 6L80E in the new HSV's and Holdens but if it is as good as the Toyota box I reckon when Camaro time comes to Australia i'll be buying an auto one of these!

    Auto'I love them!
I had a VH SS that had the M21 in it(good box) but I still pefer the auto. The auto we have in our Brock is great(HDT Calais Sport wagon)In some ways he van we are getting has the M21 in it and that disapoints me a bit as we just want it as a cruzer,But beggers cannot be choosers. And we will make it do.As for problems with the M21?it was always good,But saying that we never caned it too hard.Treat them right and they will last.

    Cheers Kiwivan

No worries Agro, I know sweet F.A about manualised autos` but I reckon if they don`t have a clutch then they aint a manual.

I still wonder how long this fellas clutch is gonna last.

Has anyone recently done this conversion? I have just finished rebuilding my 308 and I have a 3.08 10 bolt diff. I picked up a supra 5 speed none of it has gone in yet? I was wondering if anyone knows how much/where to get a tailshaft to suit? im located in QLD
Cheers any further info or help would be great!

any driveline/engineering shop will make one if you take them the yoke to suit supra. 3.08 will be an OK ratio. wouldn't want to go any taller. i had a 2.78 and it was rubbish until you got to 5th on the highway. 3.55 was too lively. I reckon 3.36 would be perfect. I don't know if mine was W57 W58 or other Supra mind you. they have different gear ratios. you'll need a modified cross member, a bell housing and a speedo drive i think.

    G'Day Jack,

I did this conversion this year into my 77 308 Pano. It had the M21 and the std diff, 3.37 something I think. There are a couple of Supra boxes, ,make sure you get the one with the steel 'sandwich plate' in there, the totally alloy ones are supposed to be weaker.

You will need a bellhousing and a crossmember (or modify your own). Depending on the type of clutch you have you may need a new cable and brake pedal. You also need a clutch and throwout bearing to suit the Toyota shaft and a new spigot bearing. All this stuff you can get from Dellow or Castlemaine Rod shop or Kingswood Country. Keep an eye out on ebay and Gumtree too, I was able to get most of it there. You will need to shorten and balance the drive shaft with the Tojo yoke on it. If you have the Box then the big cost is the bellhousing 6-800. Clutch about 400, cross member 2-300, pedal -100, drivesshaft 400.

Good news is it works well, you get a quicker take-off plus lower revs at cruise. It drops the revs about 400 at 110.

ever driven the series 2 VE or VF SS manual? the clutch has no friction or slip. it's off or on and takes a lot of getting used to.... I really disliked it, so i sold it!
