    Hz 308 Sandman Restoration

Hi guys, well ive opened a can of worms, ive stripped my Hz 308 sandman to bare metal, getting ready to send to the panel guy, It has rust in the rear quarter, sill, beaver panel and a bit in the door pillar but not to bad, BUT my maine concern is along the gutters, about half way along both sides and a little up the back of the roof as well, I have been discussing with the panel guy as to replace the whole roof or just rust repair the existing, has anyone removed the roof? how hard is it and how do we go about it? any pics etc of how toos? I have read that a lot of opinions are to sell and find a non rusty one but I have looked for a long time and cant find one. Any help would be appreciated, cheers

Best bet would be to put some pics of the effected areas for a better diagnosis.

Roof change is a hell of a job

will get some more pics tomorrow, both sides the rust doesn't go above the ridge bit that is about 50mm up from the gutters.(does that make sense?)

    cant be fixed

bog it up. look for a van with clean roof, side-seams, plenum, firewall and a-pillars. rust anywhere else is childs play ie the bottoms. sills, lower 1/4's, beaver, floors and so on.

even after you 'fix' the rust you'll still have a rust repaired van and they love to rust again right where they have been repaired. ask rod and jenny

The secret is finding a competent panel beater

  10. #10
everything is repairable but depends on both passion and finance we all know competent panel beaters that can do magic but at the end of the day you only get what you pay for i reckon that roof alone would be 2 to 3k for metal work alone inside and out and maybe plus some
