there are none left and if you find 1 he will break the bank. guaranteed

think Farrace Rust malaga. then think about getting your rust done or adding an extension to your house. will cost you the same $.

i saw what $5000 bought a guy the other day. 2x basic lower rear 1/4 panel rust repairs.
Yes i know there is big costs involved but to say it cant be fixed is wrong

everything is repairable but depends on both passion and finance we all know competent panel beaters that can do magic but at the end of the day you only get what you pay for i reckon that roof alone would be 2 to 3k for metal work alone inside and out and maybe plus some

It sounds like $20-30k worth of rust repairs if it's done by a reputable shop who will guarantee their work. thats only 300 hours or 38 days. My beater spent over 100 hours on an HZ ute for me and it had Zero rust!

Thanks guys, I know its going to be a mission to repair the van but not sure if im prepared to throw a genuine Sandman away! I have looked for a long time and buggered if I can find a mint Sandman under $50000 finished to my standard, Mine has a motor that doesn't need rebuilding, rest of drive train excellent, so I figure if I can get out of spending around $30 on panel and paint and say $5 on interior I have a fresh built Genuine 308 4 speed HZ Sandman, that would owe around the $40 mark. If anyone can help me find another better one I would jump at it though, cheers

Have a look through Wombat's thread, he's done his roof recently. His father in law is a metal guy, so that helped him.

Mainly on pages 5 and 6 regarding the roof

Well if you paid circa $5k for it then you probably figured you were in for some pain?
You'll find one! Remember for every 100 blokes with $10g to spend on buying a car there might only be 1 with 40g's. you'll always be buying value at the top end of the market.

There was a great bodied HJ Chrome yellow 308 Sandman van that a member sold no so long ago for $15k. That was sound buying and a great platform by looks

Isnt the roof of a HG/HT/HK van the same as the later models? Plus of course WB. I know they are still just as hard to find in good nick, but might just help with broadening the search parameters...

To my knowledge, the turret (roof panel) is the same for all panel vans from HD to WB. The upper tailgate glass is also the same for all of those model series.
