Don't stress too much about having an alternator at or over 100A. Remember the VT 5ltr Bosch alternator was rated at 120A which worked well in the car environment. I actually burnt 3 of these out in my VT, but that was due to a certain 1kW sub amp, which pulled dozens of amps itself when running hard. It can be surprising how much electrical load may be present when you measure it.

I assume 1KW is 1000 watts? That would be 76 amps. If the VT needed 120 amps to run the standard electronics no wonder you fried alternators! You would have needed 200 amps just to cover the extra amp!
