And there we have it, a working temp gauge ! inserted resistor as per Dr Terry's instructions. Big thank you to Damien for steering me in the right direction.
Now I just need to get the clock working mmmm. Very happy
Nice! Looks like your fuel gauge is bad as well, it shows near empty! About $60 should fix that...

Yep that works sometimes. But if the capacitors are dry you need to replace them. You should be able to get them from jaycar etc. if it's a mechanical problem you might be in for some fun. It's worth have ing a crack at the capacitors though.
