OK so further to my post, I need some advice. Any gearbox gurus on here?

My gearbox has been pretty noisy for some time. Making a wirring, sometimes spinny, grindy sounding noise.. (How do you describe a noise ha) Anyway I took it to the gearbox guy today and putting the clutch in and out, and hearing the different noise it made, he is adamant it has at least a broken tooth in there somewhere. He also said a broken tooth can cause more broken teeth and if it throws a tooth on the road it could lock up and lock the car up.. He was very sure I shouldnt be driving it anywhere.

    So no good!

Thing is, Ive been driving it around for a while with the noise and took it to bacchus Marsh last week. Im reluctant to miss out on hanging rock with the sandy! What do you blokes think? Is there a chance the gearbox can lock up? Does this happen?

I know the answer. The answer is who knows, and of course theres a chance and I shouldnt drive it, but I just thought someone might be strongly of the opinion that itll be fine! ha..

Anyway, So maybe no cool car for me but Ill be there anyway...

Drain the oil, flush and refill.
Check what comes out for metal. (If not much).
Drive until it dies or until you rebuild or replace.

Maybe drive gently after a flush and refill. Might as well enjoy it before it gets rebuilt.....there'll be a bunch of us there so you'll have a backup crew with ya

Great that you'll bring your Sandman Hainzy and I'm envious of you going to see Bruce Springsteen ,though I'm not a massive fan of his it should be a brilliant day at Hanging Rock to see him, I had considered buying tickets to go.
Anyway the important stuff for Sunday.... the Bakery opens at 7am and the Hanging Rock venue opens at 7.30am ,so what time would roughly suit everyone?

By the way I spoke to one of the event organisers today and he had recently had someone inquire if there would be any Sandmans there as he was doing some project on cars and art and would have a drone there covering the event...sounds interesting.

Sounds like a thrust bearing or a cluster shaft ,thrust will make a noise in ever gear when you operate to clutch cluster will make a noise in 1,2 and third but not in top tipical of aussie 4 speed

    Thanks for the info everyone!

I realised I did flush it out when I had the box out and bolted it up to the 304. Its been getting noisier and noisier for the last year. A lot noisier now, but what the hell. Ive driven it to Woodend and am actually here tonight doing a night shift. Then off to see the boss tomorrow. After this car show I think Ill pull the box out and get it to the gearbox guy over the road.

Meeting at the bakery Sunday morning sounds good. Maybe 8ish?

Sorry forgot to mention its a supra 5 speed, not an M21/22.

    Cheers.
