The same type of diff was in all the early commodores VB-VK except for 308's just that the 253's had a larger front yoke & uni's; and all Toranas (except A9X) had a banjo diff, which has the same crownwheel/pinion as small salisburys. BTW WB 6 cyls have the larger yoke anyway. So the only issue would be if the ute is loaded up and towing, otherwise it would be fine

    cheers

I had a 2.78 6 cyl Banjo (and axles) behind a 308 with Turbo 700 (and 265/50R14 tyres) and never had any drama's at all.
Having said that i'm easy on cars.

I used to go through a diff centre every weekend with a very worked little 253. Wasn't worth the dollars to go to Salisbury in an LH Torana. Got the centres for about 30-50 dollars a pop. Those banjo's could handle a bit.

Will handle it no worries ....I had a 253 4 speed in my HJ Prem and it never let go ever...don't go trying to smoke the tyres and it will outlast the car.
