I've got that exact fuel tank!

Looking good mate.

The tempary tank was necessary to move the van in and out of the spray booth. We dropped the fuel tank only to find the most putrid contents. 14 year old stale fuel along with moisture that has most probably formed from condensation resulted in a tank that needed some loving. **** it stank.

I sent the tank off to the local radiator repair mob who thoroughly cleaned it and applied a chemical lining that is impervious to fuel. Probably the best $350 spent during the restoration. Oh and of course while the boys were cleaning the tank they discovered that the fuel quantity sender unit was shagged; another $137.

Thank God for Rare Spares and the Internet, to date they have had all the bits and pieces that I have needed.

I've got the fuel tank out of my HG Van and the temporary tank cable tied in the engine bay so I can still move it about.
Has exactly the same look. Your right, stale fuel stinks!

i had a injected 304 driving round the block 4 times on a mixture of 50% water and 50% petrol before I discovered why the engine was misfiring. just replaced the tank and had injectors cleaned.
yes, i think i'd rather smell shit than stale fuel.

Hello folks,
Things are still progressing, just a little bit at a time, nice and steady.
Currently the van is at the upholstery shop having a new roof lining installed along with the carpet, seats and a few other little bits and pieces. Then it's back to Bruce to do the last bits and pieces, such as reinstall the windscreen (not reinstalled prior to going to the upholders as it makes it a shit load easier to install the roof lining with the windscreen out), some last minute minor paint touch ups, a good cut, polish and final buff.
It's getting closer to coming home.

Just make sure the wind doesn't get under the rooflining when you bring it back from the upholsterers.

Thanks mate that is some good advice there, thankfully the upholstery shop and the panel shop are only two blocks apart and Bruce will be accompanying the vehicle.

Happy days.........

I had a delivery to the door of my man shed last Tuesday and I couldn't be happier.
The marathon nine month bare metal strip, rust repairs and panel and paint has finally been completed back to original colour, the upholstery has been completed including seats, headlining, carpet, center console, the electricals' have been 90% completed (electricals' are never ever really completed, there will always be something that will give be you the shits).
Now all that remains is to do a final hand cut and polish, sort out the mechanicals as in having some brakes when I press the pedal would be nice, sort out the top loader gear linkages, renew the chrome work under the bonnet, new bonnet cable, new repeater lights, new tail lights, polish the wheels (that should be fun) and add the Sandman stickers and it will be done. Or bloody close to it...
Oh and have roadworthy inspection and get it registered. That shouldn't take long. ������

Yep upside down pictures adds to the mystiec, I have no idea why that has happened. The photos do actually right themselves when you click on them.
If anyone knows how to turn them up the other way, some advice would be appreciated.
