The tags are definitely Sandman and all 3 belong together. Chassi has obviously been swapped out which hurts value and perceived originality. You'll have to check the body to see if it's Sandman ( do a search on body identifiers). It could have a new chassis ( or old, as its most likely HQ chassis) or it could have had the tags put onto a completely different car.

You're going to get differing opinions on whether it's still "genuine" without the original chassis, and it will make the sell a lot harder. If you're going to restore it, do it for yourself and not for the investment.

Thanks for the advice playwme, everything on the body indicates it is a genuine Sandman. The different Chassis had me confused, however I intend to restore it for my pleasure, definetly not intending on it being a concours quality car.
    Cheers,

I have checked the chassis No again and it is DHQ85294, not DHO, which I assume is a from a HQ van.
The van hasn't been on the road since 2002 and registration paperwork is not available. Which chassis number is the motor registry likely to have the DHQ number or the original AHX number?

It's likely registered with the HQ chassis. Although it could be either. One bonus if it is the HQ chassis it can legally be fitted with a Small Block Chev up to 350. This is because the chassis is what the car is classed as (at least in NSW).

I think you will find that the engine number is Q951450P which would mean the block was the 1450th engine renumbered in 1995 by the Queensland Police Department. The chassis number would have had a letter at the end of the digits and will probably read DHQ8529A which would be an Adelaide built chassis and made in early 1973

Papaya is a great choice gorgeous sandman colour. The P stamp I thought meant it had been stamped by the police as it had a chassis or engine swap due to an accident. Better to have a P stamp than a miss match. Others will clarify. 18v means a sandman. Here is what your could look like after a paint image.jpeg job

Nice colour. As others have said. Chassis is a shame. But at the end of the day. Does it really matter? No...

The van Jennie has posted above. Just be aware those are not the "original" correct stripes that go on Papaya. Gaddy the owner decided on that combo. Looks great though!

    Good luck with the build!

    Hello Stickthis,
Thanks for pointing out the stripes on Gaddy's van; yes they do look sweet. When I eventually find myself in a position of adding stripes I will be in touch for advice on identifying the correct ones.
