    General help with some numbers.

Grabbed some random shots at the shed today and thought some of you might be interested or not on some pics.

    HJ Diff

    Gearbox part number

Is this normal? It looks hacked so I'd like to know why please.

I'm guessing the tow bar has been hacked to change the rear shackle bushes.

i think diff housing and gearbox date castings will be the next big thing for "matching numbers"
Paul HQ SS has done alot of good work on this and has a database of aussie 4 sp,

he would appreciate serial numbers off them if you can supply...

lets face it, most sandmans are L32 M20 so it will come in handy.....

so your diff is out of a 78 model and judging by the fact tha it has rubber bushes in it would indicate that its from an hz car, wagon etc..not ute/van/tonner.
towbar has been hacked coz the were to lazy to drop it to get to shackle bolt.
99 numbered side plate would indicate that its a later type box of cogs..hz wb vb to vk etc..
what is the number on the block..last pic?

Thanks guys. Confirms for me that the motor is only thing matching date wise for the car.
I may have to rethink my whole approach to this Resto now, as I may not go factory original now... time to sleep on it I reckon.

looks like casting date ends in a zero?
what its engine number? you will find this on the block deck under the alternator bracket)

    what mm/yy is your HJ?

whats the worst that can happen? OMG, you may have to put a chev into it hehe.

I caused some confusion here - that particular motor is a 308 in my HZ.

Cast date on the engine looks like D300 which is a HG block.

Valley and carb look like blue/black items. Gearbox side plate and linkages could be Commodore as well?

Yes it is D300. I picked up this HZ windowless a couple months back, some body and mechanical work has been done on it, but the owner went 'bust' and I picked it up from a mate of his... all a bit of a mystery on what was done.
    Thanks.
