I'm not sure, someone else would have a better idea than I.
I know the old chap who used to own the van had some real skinny tyres on the standard rims, probably the same as factory.
I now have 8 x 14 inch rims all round with 215/65/14 on the front.
wow 8" fronts. mate piss them off. thats were your issues are

I'm hearing you Vombil.
I'm chasing a set of 6 or 7 x 14's to replace front rims. I have Mullins rims (alloy centres welded to steel rims).
I may get a set of Dragways from Ian Splatt. If I am doing that I might as well bight the bullet and go 15's all round.
i had some 15's Dragways on a 308 4-speed hj ute. absolute shit. I dont recall profile so maybe too large a diameter.

What width were they?
Mine rarely hit the guards, only on full lock reversing up the driveway, that little gutter bump. The tyres are over 10 years old. Time to re shoe.

If all about the back space on the rims you choose
not rubbing....steering 8's would be a nightmare!

I wussed out, when I pulled the Stato apart to put bits on the van I used the power steering as well.
