    Howdy again.
Been very busy with life lately and not posted for a while so thought I'd take time to post a little up date AND ask some questions I need answers to.
Van has been in paint for quite a while now. My pb is a mate and he's doing it between his other jobs - which is cool with me as I'm in no hurry - but it's getting exciting now.,
Body has been stripped and only one dodgy repair was found ( rear rhs qtr ) which he was really surprised with! Sunroof patch which was RIVITED IN ( maybe my van was in Phil Lowe's hands at one stage??? ) was removed, trimmed and welded in. Removal of headlining exposed some little nasties in front guttering but certainly nothing major so very happy!
Best part though is AJ has done an amazing job putting the van back to windowless!!!! I am stoked with how it looks!!! I was so nervous about this process as I have only ever read horror stories of warping and disaster but I am absolutely over the moon with it! Sides went into primer yesterday and I spent most of last night staring at pictures of it - like I used to stare at the bra section of the k- mart catalogue when I was little! Could look at both forever :-)

I have been busily collecting parts and rubbers and fasteners and other goodies while it's getting painted. Things are pretty cheap generally I think but wow don't you need just so many bits! I'm preaching to the choir here I know though!
Couple of questions for you learned people -
Van is hx. Have put electronic ignition in it - am hearing talk of a 12v relay needed to make it compatible with the HX wiring???? Would appreciate any info!

Have bolted a WB power steer pump to block - it seems to sit back about 13mm from square to pulley causing belt to run at angle - is this just incorrect spacer size?

Will EL falcon thermos bolt up to a WB radiator?

Thank you to anyone that can help, and anyone interested in my little project! And thanks to GRUNT - your resto project was amazing to follow and a real inspiration!!!

    Go Hawks!

With your ignition switch (the white plastic switch block on top of the column under the dash) you will need to bridge the ignition supply wire (the one that currently supplies 5V to the dizzy) to the "IGN-12V" (the terminal that remains at 12V during cranking and after key release but turns off when the key is selected to LOCK or ACC) so that 12V is then supplied to the dizzy. I can't remember exactly which terminals they are but not a difficult thing to sort out with a basic $20 multimeter.

You'll need to pop up a photo of the pump install so we can see what's missing. It sounds like one of the spacers is either wrong or there is a bracket missing.

Yes. With a little bit of fiddling, cutting, removal of plastic and fabricating up a couple of small brackets those fans will go in easily and work well. I set up some AU Falcon ones on my HJ (a fair bit of modding involved) and with a Davies Craig controller set up they work very well!

Thanks Taily, very much appreciated! Just out of curiosity will it struggle to idle/run properly without this mod to the ignition? It was quite rushed and everything only roughed in ( and I'm positive I need a new carby ) but we just couldn't get the timing right. May explain why!
Once it's black and shiny and in my garage I'll do that mod and see what a difference it makes. Can't wait to get it back!

The ps unit came of the WB 308 block in the donor ute so unless there is a difference in the blue block I can't see why it doesn't line up. Again this was rushed but could only go in one way as far as I could see. Longer spacers will fix it I guess but hopefully I'm missing something!

Glad the EL shroud will fit as I just ordered one hehe! Good mate of mine has rebuilt a '55 Chev from a dump to show qual and did all his own wiring so I know he will handle this bit. He's first to admit though he knows nothing specific about this era Holden so any info I can acquire will be valuable!

I'd love to post some photos but I only have a phone! I'll try and see how I go!

    Thanks again Taily!!

Hey mate have you changed the crank pulley maybe it's not lined up right for a power steer set up check the one on the wb motor may have a different pulley position , just a thought.

Yeah mate you will need a good 12v into the module to run the ignition properly. I'm surprised the module is running on 5-7v....

Need pics to see the issue with the power steer or you could just try setting up some spacers to make it work.

If you want the dizzy to run at full power you should run the wire that goes to the dizzy From the under the dash to the switch pin on a relay and run a good 12 volt supply from the battery and then run a big wire from the relay to the dizzy. Mount the relay on the fire wall behind the Dizzy
Most 12 volts dizzy's will run on 9 volts but you will never get the spark you need.
H series start on 12 and then drop back to 7-8 /9 to run.
