Smile What is XY5 Option Code

I applied to Holden for letter of Authenticity which I received from Holden (thank you)

    in the letter it mention's

"Sandman vehicles cannot be identified by Holden build records (VIN). Holden build records will only indicate if the vehicle was built as a Ute or Panel Van.
The owner must check the Body and Option plate for one of the following option codes (dependent on model): XU3, XX7 or XY5.
Whilst Holden takes all reasonable care to ensure the information"

    understanding not all sandman's have XU3, XX7 or XY5

    XX7 & XU3

XX7 Special Vehicle Package was the name designated by GM Holden to the Sandman while the XU3 Special Vehicle Package was released later in mid 1975 during the HJ series, giving GM Holden an additional Sandman model on the market.

XX7 used standard passenger vehicle tyres (10cwt).

XU3 used the standard commercial tyres, rated for load carrying (14.5cwt).

HQ and early HJ did not carry derated tyres.

The GVM of a HJ-HZ will help you establish if it could be a genuine Sandman.

    What's XY5

XY5 is the Production Option Code for the HJ Sandman with White Decals.
Where an XX7 was default Black Decals, the XY5 was the White Decal option code.

The XY5 option was removed in March 1976.

Also please post in the correct location, Showroom is for members to show pictures of their restoration process or completed cars, not for general questions.
    Thanks.

Thanks Blocker, learn something everyday, I'd just assumed it was a stripe code and didn't realise it replaced the XX7. I'd love to see a Brissie plate stamped XY5 one day.

The build code would still be XX7 or XU3, but the white decals was the white decal option code.

I doubt Brisbane would have stamped XY5 instead of XX7 or XU3, because they were still XX7's and XU3's

I have seen order sheets for HJ Sandman's that request XX7 then the words White Decals noted in the comments section, and also with XY5 ticked.

Attached is a screenshot from the HJ Options book I have.

Upto the 76 build year they were only called XX7's anyway due to the non derated GVM
