    Lifting Body off Chassis

I need to take the lift the body of the chassis on my van to redo some badly repaired floored as a result of my blue slip inspection yesterday. The seam from the repair runs directly above the chassis rail so is not acessible with the body in place. Has anyone ever lifted a body of the chassis with the front guards and radiator support still in place? I am hoping to use a hoist for the task of lifting the body but I am concerned the guards may buckle as they usually supported by the chassis.

Wouldn't it be easier to undo the rear of the guards from the body and leave the front clip with the chassis? Then again if you undo the two bolts at the front holding the radiator support panel to the chassis you could walk the whole front off.

Yeah, what Dick61 says.... you can't get the body off with the guards attached. This is going to be a whole lot bigger than you want it to be unfortunately.

That would be the best way ,I've lifted my hq ute off the chassis but i took the complete front end off and i would think if you tried to lift the whole lot the gaurds would buckle with the weight of the radiator support unfortunately walking the front end off would be the way to go.

I would of thought this was OK to do, with leaving the radiator in place & disconnecting wiring etc. How high do you need to lift, right off or just enough to get between chassis & body?

    cheers

don't even attempt to do this with a painted car! You'd have to dismantle. Surely there is another way to redo the pans without going to this extreme??

Two blokes can pull a chassis out and replace it in a day. You are only taking the body off. You don't need to pull the front right off. Just bonnet and guards.
If you have AC you are going to lose the gas.

It's much easier to walk the front off and replace it than dismantling the guards, inner guards and bonnet from the firewall and the front panel, just make sure you don't close the bonnet when the cable is not connected.

whatever method is used it will need gapping again which is a real shame (for me anyways as i'm not very good at it!)
