According to the HZ parts books all models had the silencer listed as a part, it doesn't show it as an option. section 8.009 part 2812211 and clip 3934260 x 16 qty (which is now the Rare Spares part H1294 as a complete kit) The newer material offers better sound absorption, reduced weight and no itchy glass fibres. They use thermoplastic heat resistant fibre technology as required on the cars being built today. Unfortunately some materials and processes used in the past cannot be replicated due to OH&S factors in place now.
G'day Gregbark,
the only thing I could say is if the harder material was on the underside ( closest to the motor ) and the soft stuff was on the other side it would look a lot more like the original.
It does stop a lot of heat coming from the engine bay though.
Cheers
We have discussed this with the factory but the material used now forms and holds better the way it is. I agree with the look but we have to consider the use and production. Considering we couldn't get a similar material for many years ,until recently, this is what works best. The older material often deteriorated and crumbed quite easily with age.
I always pulled the ugly things off if one was fitted anyway. They deteriorated, got dirty and stayed that way and served no real purpose. They only seemed to be on Statesmans and some Premiers..... I never owned a van or ute with one.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
