9/77 build will equate to a '78 year model car.
Only problem I can see is the ute code on a panelvan. Most likely it's simply a body swap.

i read the initial post and then stopped giving it any more thought. agree, most likely a swap which in turn makes the ID a lot harder as it may just be sandman spec tags on a new body. either way the body is wrong so at the end of it all they are a set of tags and rails that match.

Just put the right ute body on it and you have a Sandman again. Rebodying is allowed.
I wouldn't take that thread as gospel, I had an HX XU4 Kingswood V8 ute and it's GVM was 1860.

They are Kingswood ute tags. Not a Sandman.
Really need to put up pictures of the tags, as it stands you have a Brisbane built van with Brisbane tags for an XX7 Sandman but the VIN tag is off a Brisbane built ute. The 1950 GVM is correct for an early HZ, the H in the vin is correct for a 78 model HZ, remember that the MODEL YEAR is what is referred to not the actual year of manufacture. 1978 model year ran from 9/77 to 8/78. It could be as simple as a mistake on the vin tag or it could be much more and the car has no true identity, does the chassis rail match the chassis number on the tags?. There are too many questions to simply answer with the available information. Jason Ruff, who told you that a body swap is acceptable?

Read what I wrote!!!!!
The thread that was used as reference is incorrect and those tags prove it

There is no argument. 8WN is a Kingswood ute. No Kingswood Sandman in HX.
Ah sorry mate. I thought they were off the van the thread was about. My mistake.

Read what I wrote, I actually said it is an XU4 KINGSWOOD, the thread that was used as a reference had the weights for HX as follows:
HX XX7 sandman's V8 GVW all were 1950kg
HX XU4 was introduced (non sandman but derated GVW for sedan tyres) 6cyl 1850kg
HX XU4 was introduced (non sandman but derated GVW for sedan tyres) V8 1950kg
HX XU3 sandman's V8 all were 2200kg
HX 6cyl all were 2155kg
HX non sandman's V8 all were 2200kg
I said not to take the information in that thread as gospel and put the tags up to show that the thread was incorrect.
People are mistaking GVW ratings for vans and utes and giving incorrect information and in fact the information in the thread is for a van only, the weights for a ute aren't listed. The original post had the GVW as 1950kg which is correct for a van, the vin tag has 80 on it which is correct for a ute, the tags in that post have a van body tag and a ute vin tag, the adr tag is not listed and the chassis number quoted is not specified as to whether it came from the chassis rail or the adr tag.
