They had the code on Brisbane built Sandmans from the beginning from what I knew?
You can pick if it's a HJ shell by the wiring hole I the firewall. Square hole for HJ, round hole for HX onwards.
If its a Sandman a re-shell won't change its identity in my opinion. It will reduce its value a lot though.
WB is not Commodore style track/seats. They are completely unique to WB. WB commercial are different seats to Statesman as well as they did not have height adjustment. The tracks are the same though. WB commercial buckets are therefore extremely hard to find now. they do have different hole spacing to earlier series Holden as stated though, but it's not commodore.

so if seats are WB style and do not have height adjustment on d/s does that mean they are WB commercial?

I was under the belief that WB ute/van seat rails were different to wb stato ones?

No I think they have the same bolt pattern? The rails may look different though.

Yep could be same bolt pattern? But I thought the rails were different. I am sure you can used WB ute/van rails on VL seats. But WB stato ones wont work.

Probably right. It would depend on how they attach to the seat I guess.

To answer Dick61, unless they changed the rear quarters to WB it's a WB shell, I've removed the panels in the tray and there's no evidence of the panels being welded. Thanks for the info on the seat holes and firewall loom positions. I also have a HJ, a HZ and HX so I can compare with those. Now that we're pretty much certain it's not a Sandman or anything special, am I still able to start a rebuild thread as it progresses? Plans are an LS1 and big tyres, it won't be a Sandman lookalike.

I'll post some pics when I work out how

It has been re-bodied with a WB shell. I don't think it's a Sandman, but rather a well optioned ute. The ID tags are as follows:

    HJ8WN80
    504209M
    1900-64V
    567-15946
    L31. M41. GU7

    HJ COUPE UTILITY
    11-75. BHJ 11168 M
    GVW2200. Seat 2

    8N8OTFJ504209J

And chassis number as far as I can tell BHJ11168M

A metallic paint (Persian sand) 2 seat 308 T400 with a 10 bolt diff. What is the interior and dash cluster meant to look like? It now has a HJ statesman dash and twin headlight front and a custom black velour interior. It is currently completely stripped and on a rotisserie undergoing a full rebuild, I'm just curious to know a little more about it. Thanks in advance if you can tell me more.

this could be an XU3 sandman, but you need the original body to positively identify it as a sandman unfortunately
