Hi all. Just wondering if any one has swapped out a full dash frame and cowl from hq to hx. Is there much to get the dash frame out after the cowl is off?

Rustyhq, I remember 1 of my mates doing this many many years ago, I seem to recall it was a BIG job
I have a HQ tonner that we cut out dash frame to put HZ dash in.(15 or so years ago) The way I decided to do it was to cut across dash top where the windscreen sits, so not to see weld, and HQ is different as it has a strip/channel for the dash top to hold in place. It wasn't a small job. But now that you can buy replacement plenums, you could just buy one for the model dash you wanted to fit, remembering that the plenum has to line up with whatever bonnet you are fitting as well.

Cheers guys. Just realised I posted in the sale Page. I'm swapping the complete cowl and lower dash frame I have a feeling it's going to take alot of beers and swearing by the looks of it
Rare spares do the complete cowl panel. $550 or something like that
Thanks
I didn't even think of Rares ,must have had brain fog ..

I got a HQ cowl panel from Muscle Car Parts (I think) in Moorebank, Sydney, they also do HQ front panels & guards now. They were keen to do a price to beat Rares

Was the cowl a good fit? Have heard rates have a new stamp as the old one was a poor fit

Rare I mean
No Idea of the fit, Sorry... still in packaging. Hope to check it out soon. I bought it a few months ago, for HQ coupe that I have been sitting on since late '80s. The cowl isn't rusty, but somewhere along the long line of previous owners, someone took a chisel or axe to the dash top & drilled out the spotwelds around the edge where the guard meets the cowl & door. But never went any further. Typical dash conversion at the time, but rough!
cheers
