Exclamation Forum Changes - User Registration

A new registration system has been put in place for the forums and will affect existing users as well.

New members must register with a hosted email address (no more hotmail or gmail) accounts, this is to curtail the number of bogus users registering and causing forum disruption.

Existing members who have webmail accounts will have 14 days to log into their control panel and change their webmail account to a hosted email address.

If you require assistance on how to change this setting please contact me or another moderator and we will assist.

For us simpletons, could you maybe outline exactly what sort of email accounts are no longer permitted? Is it just the big free ones? Im assuming you mean things like yahoo etc too are out but work email addresses are OK?

Yes Hainzy it is the big free ones like hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc.
Correct your work email addresses are not affected.

    People will need to register with their ISP (Internet Service Providers) email address such as;

    joebloggs@bigpond.com
    joebloggs@iinet.com
    joebloggs@internode.net
    joebloggs@tpg.com.au
    joebloggs@bhp.com.au

I'm in the same boat don't think work would allow it but will check ,not on here that often anyway I spose ,just lookin and log in to see stuff or to make a response. But I can see your reasoning there seems a few that are hiding behind false names just to stir others.

Just to clarify your ISP email address will have no impact on your forum browsing ability or if your work would allow it.

The email is merely a method to ensure you are a legitimate user and nothing more.

Vombil you can add your work or mrs email address
Cocko you can add your work email address

The email address is like showing your ID that's all, the forum does not send emails out to the email address (only on your birthday) and is not dependant on reading and posting on the forums.

This is the way it works for new members

A new member signs up and adds their username
The forum asks a series of questions
The forum asks for an email address to send a 'confirmation' email to ensure it is a legitimate person signing up

The new member receives an email and they click on the link to ensure they are legitimate.

Existing members do not have to confirm their legitimacy but they do need to provide a non webmail email account.

    hey Blocker
Just a quick one, will this stop things like the recent occurrences of people banned or kicked off the site from re-registering as new user and causing trouble? Also will it stop things like the one about ID's from being posted on the forum?

Yeah im unsure too. Please clarify what needs to happen. Do we need to change our current email address. Eg those who have gmail hotmail yahoo etc . Do we need to change them in our personal settings?
