"Cough, cough". Is this in the correct section Blocker? The old guy with the gavel doesn't look like you.
On topic though, those will get a lot more than $15,000 , even rusty. No one gets quite as carried away as a VW enthusiast at an auction.

Lets be honest, with my hoarding that's going to be me in another 50 years.
Wow, Kombi's are very popular. We have The Kombi Shop here, where full restoration's happen. The prices of Kombi's, once restored, make an equivalent restored Sandman look like a bargain.

"Proud To Be An Old Fart".
Yes they will be fun for someone..& yes not cheep at all
I've got a '73 tray back that I did a bare chassis rebuild on 20 years ago, but it's in need of a second time around. About to pick up an '82 diesel in used but good original condition for a couple of grand to keep original as a survivor and drive. Been collecting parts and panels for when the '73's rerun comes. Doesn't need much to be honest, so should have a good collection to choose from.
Love the Kombis too, but probably stick to what my very basic skills are capable of.
