    Chassis number, what was it 'born' as

    from the chassis number is it possible to tell if it started life as a 6 or V8? ute or van

    No Spike, not from the chassis number. From the info on the tags, the skinny one and the one on the passenger side

    ^^you can with the VIN(skinny), not the rail number

    or if you used that service they are talking about on another thread then perhaps you can??

    Ahh thanks, 2 LHS tags are missing, maybe rego / WAPOL will be able to tell me before I roll up for inspection. Lord knows what will happen if I roll up for re rego on a V8 van if it was born as a 6 cyl ute. WA can be a funny state sometimes !

    Shouldn't matter as long as it's a V8 that was an option for that model.

    But I know what you're thinking. I once had a friend that put a 6 in his Torana (originally a V8) and was given a huge run-around by the RTA. One inspector told him that because it had a V8 originally he couldn't fit a 6 without an engineers certificate! Sanity eventually won, but my mate was a nervous wreck dealing with those idiots.
    Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
