Brake light wiring

Definately an earth issue o that light. Make sure the metal contact on the side of the socket is CLEAN. The metal tab on the socket is usually where a piece on the side of the socket is missing. (Often known as the locator tab).

Tail light (or driving light as you call it) filament should go out as the brake light comes on

That's incorrect mate, it's 2 different circuits so they should both stay on if parkers are on and the brake is applied.

This is a strong theory and should not be discounted.....depending on how many schooners, the issue could even be in the flux capacitor

My money is on a sus earth or a short in a trailer wiring loom (if fitted).

When the rain stops, give the schooner method another shot. If no joy, try switching to pints......

It's a bad earth for sure, I fixed the same problem on an FC sedan a few weeks ago.
