    Best bet with a basket case is to buy a donor car that has as many bits as possible that will help.

    As for the gearbox, what do you want to drive? If you put a manual in it shouldn't be hard to swap it for an auto later down the track. If final value is your biggest concern, sell it now. Financially that will be your best result.

    Hard call. Aussie boxes are so bad but autos are so lifeless unless you've got a hot 308. If 253 I'd go manual. If 308 I'd go auto for ease of cruising but I reckon a manual would bring more value. Lets face it, these old darlings are not rocket ships so any help you can give them would be well received
