    Ive been busy working on the ute over the past couple of months concentrating on engine bay. I need to repair air conditioner compressor which has taken a bit of time. I actually have two Frigidaire A6 compressors (one has great compression and the othe a good front clutch). Taking the front clutch off has been tricky, but with a special tool(thanks eBay $24 ) has done the job. I’m changing the idler pulley bearing at the same time. Engine bay now ready for all new hoses.

    I need to re-drill the a/c drier holes on the passenger inner guard as the paint shop welded them up. There were numerous holes drilled in the inner guards over the years and they were all filled.

    It’s starting to come together finally. The radiator mounting screws proved interesting as these changed from HQ to HJ. The early J’s still used HQ style rubber grommets. So after a couple of re-orders at rare spares, its now back in. Then after a shed tidy up, i found the original all bagged and tagged (always the way).

    Tailshaft colours as per previous information on the forum, the 308 manual had blue tailshaft and when i sanded mine back ready for paint, under the black was traces of blue. Ive painted mine but i’m Not happy with the shade of blue. I cant find any information regarding paint codes for tailshafts’ anyone know details of tailshaft paint codes??

    Here's an earlier discussion on it, that includes a picture of the HJ blue tailshaft. Maybe the photo but your's has come out looking more dark blue/purplely

    Sorry can't help with paint codes, but there is also this pic from an thread on Old Holden which you have probably also seen - the tailshaft on my ute had traces of this blue.

    This doesn't really line up with the 'Dark Blue' described from the other threads via parts manuals pages but it does match other pics. That said I reckon the darker blue you have painted looks better... your ute is looking great, good luck.

    The tailshaft is actually paint dark navy blue but the photo makes it a bit purple. If i find the correct paint code then its an easy correction to repaint.

    Today i did the hardest and most frustrating job in putting the fuel tank back in. I haven’t sworn so much in years but its in. I had to take tailshaft back out and putting the tank in was a nightmare on your own!!!

    Then connecting the breather lines and spring clips was super hard. Body off resto would have been easier.

    Then bent up rear brake lines and put them back in.

    Nearly ready for all fluids......

    This is a really good build. Just did a walk though of this thread again and can clearly see the good attention to detail going on.
