STANDARD SINGLE exhaust size?? Trivial question.

Just wondering as to what SINGLE exhaust size came out of factory for a 308?
I was discussing this the other day with a guy and i said 2 1/4" and he said 2 1/2".
He was comparing a V8 VT with a V8 HZ (which have a considerable amount of HP difference from stock).
I know it's only trivial but this guy is ADAMANT that he is right and he is so anal.
Would like to prove him wrong.
    Thanks

I would have said 2" on the HZ and feel pretty confident about that.

Yeah, I'd have to agree, 2" was the go in the '70s.

    2" for 253 so perhaps 2 1/4" for 308?

The only exhaust sizes available for HZ were:

    1 5/8" ID
    1 3/4" ID
    2" ID

My HJ 253 ute has what appears to be the standard single exhaust and it's 1 3/4". I have a feeling it was 1 3/4" for a 253 and 2" for a 308.

    1 5/8" was for 173 and 202.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

I thought they were 2" with a 1.75" muffler and possibly tailpipe also 1.75".

Definitely smaller than 2 inch. They were practically peashooters

This awful exhaust is the main reason why there is around 20hp (maybe even more) difference between a HJ 5.0L with a single exhaust and the same car with a dual exhaust.
