    VN Disc brakes fitted to 10 bolt diff

    Has anyone done the above conversion?
    I'm having some clearance issues with the rotor and caliper.
    The rotor when up tight will touch the caliper. I could put a spacer between the axle face and rotor which would fix the problem but that doesn't seem right.
    Is there a different bearing (wider) that should be used?

    As usual working these things out as I go..TIA

    I did this about 10-15 years ago. Everyone on oldholden.com told me it was not possible.

    Stuffed if I can remember!! You need to use drum brake bearings and seals and spacers? Disc brake axles.
    or was it drum brake axles with disc brake bearings and spacers and seals. and disc brake axle studs.....

    I know I needed to get the standard vn cables shortened.

    Also the hoses. I think I had to remove the imperial fitting on the brake pipe. and fit a metric one? and re double flare it. As said its been a while.....

    Thanks Stickthis, a bit confusing, the drum brake axle seal when tightened leaves too much end float in axles.
    The disc brake axle seal when tightened leaves the backing plate loose (the part that holds the caliper)
    The commodore (VN) axle seal is spot on but as said earlier the disc is touching the caliper.

    I think the other fix would be to go back to drum brake seals and put a spacer behind the bearing cup in the diff housing which would get rid of the end float and also position the axle out further.

    That could have been what I did! lol. Im a machinist by trade. So if I did have to do that it would have taken me 5min work. Hence the lack of memory for it.

    What axles you using? drum or disc? as they are different.

    I assumed they were the right axles as I bought the diff a couple of years ago with these brakes already on it. Just had the diff rebuilt and finding this problem as I'm fitting the brakes
    What's the difference between the axles for drum and disc?

    Um. Its something to do with the length of how far they stick out of the diff housing. Disc axles maybe shorter? To allow for disc thickness? I would have to put two side by side to remember....
