k is a measurement is "Kelvin" which is colour temperature. The higher the number the warmer (yellow) the colour the lower the number the cooler (blue) the colour temperature.
55w is standard low beam. Typically 55/60 split. I would suggest something like 60/90.
It is the other way around isn't it? Whiter/cooler (ie blue-er) light is a higher number? Generally anything above about 4000k is called cool white anyway.
Oh I do like when we are able to correct you Innuendo! hahaha!!! Sorry stirring the pot ;)
Your close to correct ;)
the lower the k the yellower the light. You normal headlight globes are around the 3000k. The standard white globes you can get claim to be around the 4000k. I would say more around the 3500-3700k.
First level HID is normally 4000k. Which is normal light. Most people get 6000k. (this is what I have used in MANY cars) Its a very white light. Its close to blue. (depending on what brand you buy)
8000k is blue. Looks like crap!
You then have Xenon (high or low beam only) and Bi-Xenon. (these are high and low beam in one globe)
Watt raitings.
A 35W low beam HID is about the same as 60w normal.
55W is good for a high beam in headlights. Or low beam if you have projector headlights. (they wont flood the other drivers so much but will still fry the bugs on the road)
When it comes to spotties. If you look hard enough there is 100w HID kits for spotties. I fitted some 100w into the standard headlights on my 80 series landcruiser when I had it. Mate it was bright!!!! (I didn't need standard spotlights)
Absolutely hate those new really bright white lights coming at you in the dark. Very hard to see where your going. There was a law on how bright your lights could be, I wonder if its changed. Some new cars are like having high beam on. Need to use the fog line to keep on the road.
Thanks Crew,
Excellent info. Would like the 100w for the spotties (Hella 4000) , but from what i read there are a few that claim 100w but they are still 55w , so i might just go with the 55k and save the $$ for 100w and still getting 55w.. I'm with you on these HID or Xenon headlights , way too bright on low beam. Bit like the clowns that have their driving/fogg lights on all the time..
Thanks again..
