Does anyone know anything about the baffles that go between the support struts and the outside large panel? (See the attached pictures for location). I think they are made of felt. I would like to get some new ones. Any ideas?

I know of them, but never changed them. If anyone has something made up, it will probably be Rare Spares. Other than that, how would you go about installing the new ones?
They are more like a stiff hessian. Would be quite a job to get new ones in. Are yours missing?
Some were missing and others had held condensation against the panel steel and there was a lot of surface rust that needed attention. They pulled out quite easily (I thought that they might rip). They look a bit daggy so I was going to replace them if a viable alternative was available; otherwise I'll just have to reuse the old ones!
They came out quite easily with a scraper pushing from one side and some MIG wire pliers pulling from the other side. I imagine it would be a harder process to re-install them and would probably require a generous amount of swearing and cursing myself that I had pulled them out in the first place!
Might be just as easy to use sticky backed rubber from the aircon suppliers or Clark rubber.
If you can find a part number for them Greg or Les at Rares can look up the drawings for that part number and probably find out what they are made of or who supplied the material. I cannot find them in any early HQ right through to WB parts catalogues though.
Mine are covered up now so I cannot look, but was that stuff similar to the old horse hair carpet underlay you used to find in older cars?
I thought I remembered it like a course hair, that would let the air circulate and deter moisture/rust.
I would use a modern vehicle carpet underlay material and slice that to desired thickness, but that's me.
Use something that won't hold moisture, it only needs to stop any drumming from the long panel, so a rubber material would work.
If you use rubber, you can get it in easily by spraying it with hair spray and sliding it into place. The hairspray evaporates and will glue the rubber in place. Old BMX grip installation method,..... I still use it.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
That sounds like a pretty nifty trick Big Rob, will try it on mine when I get back to it.
I went for a Clark rubber product for this replacement also, but havent fitted it yet, on the weekend I went to do it my local Clarkes didnt have a size in stock that fitted well enough, I got some that was slightly too thin and some that was slightly too thick, but hairspray eh? Nice tip - that might get the thicker stuff to slide in ok!
