Any Engel experts on the forum..

    Hi,
Long story but i have ended up with two Engel fridges at a recent auction , one is the old yellow style fridge and the other the younger grey model. I've heard that the older ones are actually better ??
Any advice. Sorry its not a Sandman subject , but it'll hopefully end up in the back of a Sandman with a cold one or two in it..
    Cheers
    Rob

I have the grey MS 45 Engel in my 4WD had it for a few years now i think they are more efficient now than the old ones
having said that pretty sure the older motors were better they were made in Japan dont think there made there anymore
wouldnt go away without the Engel now no more eskys with ice

Mate of mine picked one up from a road side collection its 40 years old still works
you really need a separate deep cycle battery to run the fridge in your van

I've got a grey one 1 year old on my cruiser. Great fridge except I think you have to watch the thermostat. It has a tendency to freeze instead of cool. I have heard that some of their thermostats are hit and miss. Apparently not too expensive to replace. Very efficient machine a deep cycle will run one for average two days without starting the ute. Can't recommend fitting a dual battery system enough tho.
