Electric Choke - Oil Pressure Gauge

This afternoon I was keen to get the engine fired up on my van but encountered two issues.

First was the oil pressure gauge. The van is equipped with a GTS dash. When I turned the key to the on(run) position the needle moved to the right(clockwise) and indicated maximum oil pressure. I think this may be a sender issue. I bought a new sender unit and installed it a couple months back for the life of me I can not remember if I specified to the guys at Rare Spares that I needed the sender for the GTS dash. Other than a failed or incorrect sender is there anything else that would cause the dash to display max oil pressure like this?

Second is how to wire up an electric choke on the Quadrajet. It appears that electric choke needs a constant 12V source for it to remain open. What power source have people tapped into to run the choke? Do I need to run a relay at all?

You've got a sender for an oil pressure warning light I think.
Not sure about the choke, I usually fit a Holley and run a manual choke. A wiring diagram would solve it but I don't have one handy at the moment.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

There should be 12V at the plug near the booster that I think the tacho wire goes to. Pink wires.

WB-Commodore oil pressure gauges read resistance backwards to HQ-Z, so it could be one of those.

    Cheers.

The oil sender unit will likely be the problem. The type that reals pressure for GTS dash has a bulbous head on it approx. 3cm diameter by about 3cm tall, with the little tab that the wire attaches to on top. The one that just operates a warning light (and reads max pressure when connected to GTS dash) is similar to just a bolt that screws in with the tab on top.

Never heard of an electric choke on Rochester, what model did they come out?

You can buy conversions for them. Holley sold electric choke generic carbs too, I saw a 780cfm vac sec square bore carb the other day with one.

Took the pressure sender down to the instrument service place and the bloke told me I had the wrong one. He has supplied the correct unit so I hope that solves the issue. I'll hook the choke up as per HK1837 suggestion.

Just check they are ignition operated too - I can't remember.
