    U.S. Sandman

Hi guys! Car is finally coming along! I ended up going with an orange, couldn't get papaya out of my head!! LOL. I was kind of at a standstill til I got the body back and mounted. Motor and tranny proved to be a bit of a challenge but we made it work. The motor is a 383 stroker coupled to a Tremec TR3550. The rear-most shifter position of the Tremec came out almost exactly where the original shifter came through. What is supposed to be in the center area of the console where the shifter comes through? I think the clown I got the car from lost that part! Can't seem to find anything in my boxes of parts that would finish that area off. The center of the console is just one big open hole.

Looking great don3527, Shift quadrant should look something like this, photo from eBay Australia, they are still available from Rare Spares in Australia, What colour is the dash fascia, may give you an idea of what will be in the console, quadrant.jpg, Cheers, Kym

I'm sure Rares sell the insert separately but I could only find the auto insert.

Looks good mate. Did you have to do any tunnel mods to fit the gearbox?

This is a stick car, would the center insert be just a filler in the front and a place for a boot in the rear? Had to open the tunnel up a little to squeeze it in, the Tremec is a good bit larger than the factory tranny. Also had to tweek the tranny support cross brace but I was able to just bend it without doing any cutting so it can always be bent back upward to the original location.

Just looked up your link to Rare Spares, I can see what it looks like now, thanks!!

Yes. Little depressed tray at front with a boot at rear for the gear lever.

Might have to check the console you have as there was a long and short version. The long version is in the post above and the shorter version had a lift up lid at the dash end of the console and then the gear change quadrant.

You can make a boot up or use an after-market one. All you do is make a retaining piece that fits the hole in the console and use it to lock the boot in place.

    Nice colour choice mate!
