HQ Sandman 308 speedo the correct one please.

Looking at a photo of a 74 van (from through the drivers window shot) speedo is a 200KM/h maximum gauge.
Researching your info threads it quite often mentions speedo in a 74 HQ should be 220KM/h max gauge.
Can it be either? or is something not quite kosher ?? Thanks

Hi Robbo.

It should be this one I think. The 200kph ones are the U61 dash optioned on a model other than a GTS or Sandman in 1974. ... or the speedo has died and they just replaced it with a normal one.

Here is a picture of the dash from the HQ Sandman ute that Ozbox photographed. He thought the ute was in original condition. Dash looks rather untouched with the 220kph speedo.

Why would the column be black on a 38-39 trim HQ? I can't recall for certain but maybe 38J has a black column but the others should be Chestnut from memory, but I can't recall exactly as its been 2 years since I looked into it. The colour will be as per whatever the base vehicle got, only things changed with the Sandman package are the fascia, the steering wheel and the addition of the console.

I just assumed all the 'sport' models got a blacked column. You know what they say, assumption is the mother of all f#@k ups

I'll check up to get it right. Just remember that the original Sandman didn't change the base vehicle hardly at all, just added a few options together into a package deal. The only unique things were the stripes/decals (which are not even fitted to the completed car), the horn badge and a bit of satin black paint. The rest is either bits pulled from GTS (console shift, speedo, headlight surrounds, steering wheel and guards), SS (grille) plus a few basic Belmont and Kingswood options (buckets, 4spd, U21 instruments and N66 rally rims).
